Yes. This is a cute love story and will definitely get you in the gift-giving spirit.
This story follows Della as she pines to get a gift for her love, Jim. Although she's been saving up for months, Della only has $1.87 to buy Jim a gift - even though this is in like, 1920s dollars, that still isn't enough for much of anything.
Della is on the hunt for a solution to make money. She resolves to sell her hair, and luckily, has enough money to buy Jim a watch. She gets home, super excited to give the gift to Jim. Jim comes home and is shocked that Della has short hair. Della's concerned Jim doesn't think she's pretty anymore (the 1920s for ya), which he dismisses. He pulls out his gift for Della and it is a set of luxurious combs that she has been wanting for a while - however, now she doesn't really have hair she imagined used them in anymore. Della gives her gift to Jim and he laughs, sharing he sold his watch to be able to afford the combs for Della.
The story ends with and that Della and Jim sacrificing for each other the greatest treasures of the house, but with the Magi being wise, they got them back. It's a cute little tale and definitely encapsulates the struggle of gift-giving in the month of December when there's so much one wants, and so much one wants to buy, but perhaps not the means to do both.
